RCA 50LB45RQ Service menu adjustment for main board replacement for a solarized picture.

This repair tip if for an RCA model 50LB45RQ. This TV came in my shop dead. Only front panel red LED was on. All power supply voltages were present except the PS on voltage from main board did not change when I pressed the power button. This indicated a possible main board issue. After replacing the main board the TV came on but the picture was grainy and solarized. To correct this problem I had to enter the factory service menu by pressing the menu button on the remote followed by the numbers 1147 while the TV was on. After the service menu came up I scrolled down to the LVDS map and changed this setting to the option which said 8 bit A and my picture returned to normal.

Main board numbers I found for this TV were T.RSC8.1E11481 and 1A2E1039 The expanded number was 1A2E1039-000002148

LCD TV Repair made easy # 10

n this video I showed an actual repair I did on one of my customers TVs. At the bottom of this info section I list all the part I used to repair this TV
Listed below are some good resources for anyone interested in learning more about electronics repair.
How to troubleshoot and repair Switch Mode Power supplies by Jestine Yong at http://davestv.jestinemichellepow.cli... This book is a bit spendy but nevertheless it's the best book I have ever read on switch mode power supplies. Because Jestine works as a repair technician he is good at getting right to the main points we need to understand about this kind of power supply rather than just being good at general theory.

Since a majority of the problems I have seen on LCD TVs are related to bad power supplies this is one book I highly recommend. Most of the book was easy reading with plenty of pictures and diagrams.

Even though this book was about computer monitor repair I found most of the troubleshooting techniques he demonstrates also applied to LCD TV repair so I was glad to have read it. Much like the book on Switch Mode Power Supplies it was easy to read and has lots of pictures and good troubleshooting techniques.

The television you see me repairing in this video is a Polaroid TDA03211C I have also seen an almost identical power supply in a brand called Element. The parts I replaced in this TV were Two N channel Mosfets. location was Q17 AND Q18 Both part numbers were FQPF9N50CF. The location of the electrolytic capacitors is EC17 AND EC18 both were 10 MF at 450 volts. Note. on some models they use Mylar capacitors which may not be bad. Their location is C72 & C73. The blown fuse was located next to the largest capacitor on the power supply board was location F2. It's a 3.16 amp fuse. It may be tricky to spot because its a glass fuse covered in green plastic which makes it look like a resistor. Fuse F1 was okay in this case. This power supply often has a bad Diode which can contribute to problems. Its location is D10 someone suggested ECG 576 might be a good replacement for this diode but I have not verified their suggestion.
A word of caution. Many people who have this same power supply have mistakenly assumed the large 150 mf 450 volt capacitor is bad just because the plastic on it top is bulge from heat and air pressure.

LDC TV Repair made easy # 5

Many times bad capacitors can be momentarily restored to their normal capacity with the use of heat. This will not work if your capacitor is internally shorted or to dried out.. My demonstration is not meant to encourage the use of a hair dryer in place of a good capacitor tester but it can be helpful in doing a quick estimate.

LCD TV repair made easy #3

When I first started out doing TV repair I never realized buying original parts was so important in many cases. I'm not against using generic parts as long as they work correctly but after a friend of mine was forced to redo three convergence jobs on his customers big screen TVs I thought the potential for problems was worth mentioning.

If your a professional looking for more understanding on how to repair LCD TVs or an electronics hobbyist here are some good resources.

LCD TV Backlights Overheating transformer on Samsung LN40B550K1F

LCD TV Backlights Overheating transformer on Samsung LN40B550K1F

http://www.armanfix.com/

I remember being told that the Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps on LCD TV's will draw more current as they begin to age due to a build up of carbon, After replacing a burnt out inverter transformer with a new one, I used my temperature probe on each of the 4 output transformers to see if my replacement transformer was operating at a higher temperature than the others, and i noticed it was. My first thought was there might have been an issue with the replacement transformer, so I tried swapping locations with one of the other transformers, but it still ran hot. My youtube friend Norcal715 suggested there might be an issue with AC ripple distorting the drive pulse going to the transformer due a bad electrolytic capacitor, but. when I examined the transformer inputs I noticed they all shared the same source, so this ruled out there being a bad capacitor on the input side, I also checked my ceramic capacitors on the outside and they all checked okay, and this led me to the conclusion that my Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps were starting to draw more current than they should due to a carbon build up from natural aging. The TV I repaired is a Samsung Model LN40B550K1F. The inverter board number is a BN44-00264B. The transformer part number is QGAH02095.

LCD TV Repair Review & Overview-Common Problems, Symptoms, Solutions and Repairs for LCD TV Repair

LCD TV Repair Review & Overview-Common Problems, Symptoms, Solutions and Repairs for LCD TV Repair

video by ShopJimmy.com

http://www.armanfix.com/repair-appliance.html

We are going to be giving a general overview of LCD TV Repair in this video and we are going to be taking a look at the different components in LCD TVs and what can go wrong with the components and the symptoms they will show and how to diagnose the problems and how to get them fixed. If you are having a problem with your TV please comment below this video or send us a YouTube message with your TV model number. Before beginning work, be sure you have unplugged the TV from any power source and that you are properly grounded.Remove all the screws for the back cover of the TV.Remove the back panel of the TV.Identify different parts of the TV. Power supply takes in and distributes power throughout the TV.Main board typically manages all inputs and outputs for your video and sound.Backlight Inverter controls your CCFLs and the light source for the TV.T-con board connects the video from the main board to the panel through the LVDS cable. Not every TV is the exact same. There are two different levels of TV repair, component level repair and board replacement repair. The first thing that could go wrong with the power supply is that the TV will not turn on. Be sure your outlet works and then begin to diagnose the issue and either check components or replace your power supply board. Some common problems on these power supply boards are bad capacitors with bulgy caps or leaking fluid. The first sign that the main board could have a problem is if you do not have an image on the screen. Be sure your source video is working correctly. Either replace the problem components on the board or replace the entire board. The t-con board could show a problem symptom if you are able to hear the show on your screen, but you cannot see the image, there is most likely a problem with your t-con board. The t-con is also known for causing vertical colored lines or half of your screen not having an image.Backlight inverter problem symptoms turn on the TV and the image only shows for a second and then the image goes black, or if you have a flickering image on your screen it could be the backlight inverter that is causing this problem.
