Solution: Check the door switch as described
above. The capacitor or diode may be bad. Discharge the capacitor as
described earlier in the article. Test the capacitor by removing the
leads and setting the VOM to RX100. Probe the terminals. The reading
should start in the low ohms and increase toward infinity. Reverse the
probes and re-test. The reading should do the same thing. If not, it's
bad. To test the diode, disconnect the diode from both the appliance
and the capacitor. With the VOM set to RX100, probe the wires. Then
reverse the probes and read again. You should get infinity for one
reading and low ohms for the other reading. If not, replace. Another
cause could be a faulty magnetron, but due to the sensitivity of that
piece, it's best left to a professional.

Testing electronic components and finding unknown resistor values by Jestine Yong. http://5d8388ioop4nfm862d1b0u7sbj.hop... This
is an excellent book for A beginner level student who wants to learn
how to test electronic components like a professional. Jestine really
took the time to make this book easy to understand.
Now that we see a great many surface mounted components being used in
modern day TVs many repairmen are so intimidated they may forget there
are still a great many serviceable components and circuits, Especially
the switch mode power supply. Here are a few ebooks I thought were very
helpful.
How to troubleshoot and repair Switch Mode Power supplies by Jestine Yong at http://davestv.jestinemichellepow.cli...
This was an expensive ebook but the best I have ever read on switching
power supplies.Jestine is good at getting right to the main points you
need to understand about troubleshooting this kind of power supply and
their associated feedback circuits. Since a majority of the problems I
have seen on LCD TVs are related to bad power supplies this is one book
I'm glad to have in my collection. Most of the book was easy reading
with plenty of pictures and diagrams. ======================================== Testing electronic components and finding unknown resistor values by Jestine Yong. http://5d8388ioop4nfm862d1b0u7sbj.hop... This
is an excellent book for A beginner level student who wants to learn
how to test electronic components like a professional. Jestine really

though this book was about computer monitor repair I found most of the
troubleshooting techniques he demonstrates also applied to LCD TV repair
so I was glad to have read it. Much like the book on Switch Mode Power
Supplies it was easy to read and had lots of pictures and good
troubleshooting techniques. ======================================== Mikes TV case histories The latest paperback edition has hundreds of case histories on LCD, CRT, Plasma and Projection TVs. at http://www.mikestvtips.com/ 1-410-272-4984 When
I first started in the TV repair business and my troubleshooting skills
were not that great often times Mike's case histories told me exactly
which parts I needed to replace and it often saved me from having to
purchase a great many schematics. I have been using his case histories
since 1995 and I would not be with out them. If you call him please be
considerate of his time zone and call between 11:00 AM TO 8:PM Eastern
time only. ======================================== Getting Started In Electronics by Forest Mims available at some Radio Shacks or through this link. http://www.Forrestmims.com If
you know nothing at all about electronics and want to start with the
basics this is a fantastic book to start with. This book is packed with
pictures.
Many
times bad capacitors can be momentarily restored to their normal
capacity with the use of heat. This will not work if your capacitor is
internally shorted or to dried out.. My demonstration is not meant to
encourage the use of a hair dryer in place of a good capacitor tester
but it can be helpful in doing a quick estimate.

In this video I show the importance of measuring the current or the
power your TV is using as a way of determining if there are any shorted
parts. I also show the value of using a variac transformer to find
shorted circuits before you apply full power.

I remember being told that the Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps on LCD TV's will draw more current as they begin to age due to a build up of carbon, After replacing a burnt out inverter transformer with a new one, I used my temperature probe on each of the 4 output transformers to see if my replacement transformer was operating at a higher temperature than the others, and i noticed it was. My first thought was there might have been an issue with the replacement transformer, so I tried swapping locations with one of the other transformers, but it still ran hot. My youtube friend Norcal715 suggested there might be an issue with AC ripple distorting the drive pulse going to the transformer due a bad electrolytic capacitor, but. when I examined the transformer inputs I noticed they all shared the same source, so this ruled out there being a bad capacitor on the input side, I also checked my ceramic capacitors on the outside and they all checked okay, and this led me to the conclusion that my Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps were starting to draw more current than they should due to a carbon build up from natural aging. The TV I repaired is a Samsung Model LN40B550K1F. The inverter board number is a BN44-00264B. The transformer part number is QGAH02095.
We are going to be giving a general overview of LCD TV Repair in this video and we are going to be taking a look at the different components in LCD TVs and what can go wrong with the components and the symptoms they will show and how to diagnose the problems and how to get them fixed. If you are having a problem with your TV please comment below this video or send us a YouTube message with your TV model number. Before beginning work, be sure you have unplugged the TV from any power source and that you are properly grounded.Remove all the screws for the back cover of the TV.Remove the back panel of the TV.Identify different parts of the TV. Power supply takes in and distributes power throughout the TV.Main board typically manages all inputs and outputs for your video and sound.Backlight Inverter controls your CCFLs and the light source for the TV.T-con board connects the video from the main board to the panel through the LVDS cable. Not every TV is the exact same. There are two different levels of TV repair, component level repair and board replacement repair. The first thing that could go wrong with the power supply is that the TV will not turn on. Be sure your outlet works and then begin to diagnose the issue and either check components or replace your power supply board. Some common problems on these power supply boards are bad capacitors with bulgy caps or leaking fluid. The first sign that the main board could have a problem is if you do not have an image on the screen. Be sure your source video is working correctly. Either replace the problem components on the board or replace the entire board. The t-con board could show a problem symptom if you are able to hear the show on your screen, but you cannot see the image, there is most likely a problem with your t-con board. The t-con is also known for causing vertical colored lines or half of your screen not having an image.Backlight inverter problem symptoms turn on the TV and the image only shows for a second and then the image goes black, or if you have a flickering image on your screen it could be the backlight inverter that is causing this problem.
